In an effort to share and explain what is going on in the world around us, and in Steve’s mind and heart, the Inspired By Steve blog is updated often. His heart and mind work together, triggered by news in the media, inner thoughts and feelings and interesting discoveries made by Steve in his daily journey.

Latest Blog: Do YOU Win Like Lin?

Until recently, many casual basketball fans had never heard of Jeremy Lin.

This Taiwanese-descended player for the New York Knicks (his third team in as many season) has generated what the media refers to as ‘Lin-sanity’ over the last few weeks.

At the moment, his hands are among the hottest in basketball. His last-second (even HALF a second, in one case) game-winning baskets are the stuff of legend.

For many, he seems to have come from nowhere to reach epic heights. On-line store sales of his replica jersey (#17) have increased more than 3000%, according to his Wikipedia page.

Let’s face it…this kid is HOT right now!

Will he be able to maintain this amazing level of performance indefinitely?

Doubtful.

Is it true that he ‘came out of nowhere’ to the national spotlight?

No.

Before he arrived to the big show as an undrafted player, surviving just below the hardwood hall of fame spotlight, he put up very good statistics throughout his college career. He was worthy of notice, but wasn’t singled out as a ‘surefire superstar’ like a Lebron James.

How are YOU doing in YOUR game these days?

Are you at the top of your game, all of a sudden?

Or, like so many others who are enjoying peak performance and fan-favorite status, have you been working at your craft for years on end? Have you drilled endlessly under the tutelage of coaches, mentors and managers, slowly polishing your craft for YOUR day in the sun?

Only being able to speak for myself, I will claim the latter. I laugh when people comment that I have ‘come out of nowhere’ as a speaker. I am flattered by the comment, which is often followed by the declaration that I recently celebrated the birth of YEAR SEVEN of my “Overnight Success Tour”.

I have enjoyed my formative years in the minor leagues, trading motivational humor for a meal or hoping to garner enough book sales to pay for gas to get home from the engagement.

My coaches and mentors, all-stars in their own right, have kept me going through the drills, building up my skills.

Repetition, repetition, repetition…being READY for the day that I would get to play on the big stage.

Have I reached Jeremy Lin status yet?

No, but there are flashes here and there of what is to come. I am being invited to larger and larger stages, getting to spend more time with luminaries of the speaking world.

Other than my mom and my fiancee, not too many people are wearing my t-shirt just yet…and I am okay with that.

I’ll just keep playing because I just LOVE this game.

I love the teammates I have gathered.

And I hope you feel the same way about YOUR game.

There’s the whistle, time to lace up and work on today’s strategies.

Good luck today, and every day, to you all!!

Motivational Firewood

“Some cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go” (Oscar Wilde)

Motivational Firewood: So...are there people in your life who bring happiness whenever you are near them? Do you dread being around others because they drain you of happiness, just by being near them?

Which one are YOU, for others?

~ Steve Gamlin
